Cowboys Thinking About Potential Bowl Plans
April 08, 2003 | Cowboy Football
OSU's impressive 7-3 season has put the Cowboys in position to most likely attend one of four Big 12-affiliated bowls. The Plymouth Holiday Bowl, played Dec. 29 in San Diego, has third choice among Big 12 schools; the Builders Square Alamo Bowl on Dec. 30 in San Antonio has fourth choice; the Jeep Aloha Bowl in Honolulu on Dec. 25 has fifth choice; and the Insight.Com Bowl in Tucson on Dec. 27 has the sixth pick.
"We're very pleased that our seniors get a chance to go to a bowl for the first time in their careers," said Cowboy head coach Bob Simmons. "It's also a chance for our younger players to experience a taste of postseason action. No matter where we go, it will be a tremendous reward for our players after their hard work this season."
Although several scenarios are still possible, the Cowboys are most likely headed for Honolulu, San Antonio or San Diego.
"We're excited about the possibilities that are open to us in December," said athletics director Terry Don Phillips. "Each bowl has its own separate merits. For instance, the Aloha Bowl gives us a chance to play the only game on national television on Christmas Day, not to mention the opportunity to spend several days in Hawaii. The Alamo Bowl offers a great city in San Antonio and a chance for many of our fans to travel and see the game."
The Cowboys close out their regular season with a 2:30 p.m. Saturday game at Baylor. Bowl selections will be finalized after the Big 12 Championship Game, which will be played in San Antonio on Dec. 6.
