Cowboys Accept Alamo Bowl Offer
April 08, 2003 | Cowboy Football
The Cowboys will face Purdue from the Big Ten Conference in a game that will kickoff at 7 p.m. (CST) and be broadcast live on ESPN.
Oklahoma State will be making its first bowl appearance since 1988 when the Pokes defeated Wyoming 62-14 in the Holiday Bowl in San Diego. The Cowboys finished the regular season with an 8-3 overall record and a 5-3 record in Big 12 Conference play. OSU finished second in the Big 12's South Division.
Head Coach Bob Simmons, the Big 12 Conference Coach of the Year, said the opportunity to play in a bowl game is a well-deserved reward.
"This is a great reward for the hard work and dedication shown by the members of this football team," Simmons said. "We look forward to the next few weeks as we get ready to go to San Antonio and, we look forward to the tremendous challenge of playing a quality team like Purdue."
Simmons and his Cowboys will return to the practice field this week as the Pokes start to get ready for the Alamo Bowl. OSU is scheduled to workout most of this week before taking final exams next week and preparing to leave for San Antonio the following week.
Tickets for the 1997 Builders Square Alamo Bowl are available by calling the Athletic Ticket Office at 1-800-522-6858 or (405) 744-5745. Telephone orders can be made all this week between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. The ticket office windows in Gallagher-Iba Arena will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The Builders Square Alamo Bowl will be the 13th bowl that Oklahoma State has participated in since 1945. OSU has a 9-3 record in bowl games, including two straight bowl wins (35-33 over West Virginia in the 1987 Sun and 62-14 over Wyoming in the 1988 Holiday).
