USA Baseball announced today the first 33 player invitations to its summer camp scheduled to open June 8 at Hi Corbett Field in Tuscon, Ariz.
The National Team, coached by Texas A&M skipper Mark Johnson, will play the Japan Collegiate All-Star Team in Japan from June 22-July 1, compete in a US West- sponsored Western United States Tour and also is entered in the NBC World Series in Wichita, Kan., Aug. 6-17.
Four players from Big 12 schools were invited to the camp including the OSU contingent. Sophomore outfielder Daylan Holt of Texas A&M and sophomore infielder Jason Moore of Texas will join Smith and Budde in representing the Big 12.
Smith, the left handed ace of the Cowboy staff, is 9-2 this season with a 2.00 ERA and 102 strikeouts in 81.0 innings pitched. The Henderson, Nev., native was invited to the tryouts as a freshman last season but did not make the squad.
Budde is currently third on the squad with a .341 batting average and has knocked 16 doubles this season with 36 RBIs. The Midwest City, Okla., native has played in 42 games this season with 35 starts split between the third base and catcher's spot.
