Scrimmage Set for Saturday
April 07, 2003 | Cowboy Football
O-State's Friday morning practice ended with a live, goal-line scrimmage session featuring the number offense against the number one defense.
The Friday practices were a prelude to a major scrimmage, scheduled for Saturday morning on Lewis Field. The scrimmage will begin at 11 a.m., and be open to the public, free of charge.
Saturday's scrimmage will be one of the final workouts open to the public. The Cowboys will not practice Monday (the first day of classes at OSU), but resume normal workouts Tuesday afternoon. Tuesday's workout, and all workouts next week, will be closed to the public.
Oklahoma State is just two weeks from its season opener at Southern Mississippi. The Sept. 1 game at Hattiesburg will kickoff just after 11 a.m. (CDT) and be televised on ESPN.
One week following the Southern Miss game, the Cowboys will open their home schedule against Louisiana Tech. The home opener will kickoff at 7 p.m. Season and individual game tickets are available at the Athletic Ticket Office in the Athletics Center, or by calling 1-877-ALL-4OSU.
OSU Football Notes
Freshman quarterback Josh Fields worked in full pads during Friday morning's workout and Head Coach Les Miles said he expected the Stillwater product to participate in Saturday's scrimmage.
Senior cornerback Michael Cooper had two interceptions in Thursday morning's scrimmage and appears to be having a solid preseason. Cooper started all 11 games last year and had a team-leading 16 pass breakups.
There is certainly no quarterback controversy at OSU. Sophomore starter Aso Pogi completed 12-of-14 passes in Thursday's scrimmage. Last year Pogi passed for 1,550 yards and six touchdowns while completing over 56 percent of his passes.
Dwayne Levels is having a good preseason and should be considered one of the top linebackers in the Big 12, if not the nation. OSU's leading tackler from a year ago will be making his 12th straight and 17th career start when the Cowboys face Southern Miss in two weeks.
