OSU Newcomers Ready for Second Day of Workouts
April 07, 2003 | Cowboy Football
The first-year Cowboys went through a two-hour session Wednesday on the artificial surface of Lewis Field. The non-contact drill focused on teaching and fundamentals, under the watchful eye of fifth-year head coach Bob Simmons.
"It was an interesting first day," Simmons said after the workout. "I like this group of young men. There is obviously some talent in this group."
Thursday's schedule called for a morning workout followed by a late afternoon session. The OSU rookies will not practice Friday. They will go through academic orientation while the varsity reports to Stillwater.
This weekend, the combined group will go through media day activities Saturday morning and the freshmen will stage a light workout Saturday afternoon. The 1999 Cowboys begin three-a-day workouts Monday morning and will continue that schedule through Friday of next week.
Oklahoma State opens the 1999 season September 4 on Lewis Field against Southwestern Louisiana.
