OSU Football to Open Full-Squad Workouts this Weekend
April 07, 2003 | Cowboy Football
The OSU returners reported to campus where they will undergo physical examinations and be issued equipment Friday. After a combined team meeting Friday night, the first full squad practice is scheduled for Saturday morning.
"Most of our returning players were around during the summer and have done a good job in the off-season conditioning program," said OSU Head Coach Bob Simmons. "We're anxious to get started and get some things accomplished because we're just three weeks from the season opener."
Four players, tailback Andre Richardson, linebacker Raymond Cato, defensive end Eric Stevenson and defensive lineman Brandon Ashley, are scheduled to report at a later time after they have fulfilled academic responsibilities.
Three other players, including receiver Tank Coleman and defensive backs J.B. Flowers and Alvin Porter, will not return for the fall semester but are expected to be back at Oklahoma State in January. Lineman Kevin Kemp will report to the squad when classes begin on August 25 but will not be eligible to play in 1997.
Coach Simmons also announced Thursday that receiver Terrance Richardson has been suspended indefinitely for violating team policy. Coach Simmons said he would have no further comment.
OSU's practice schedule includes two workouts on Saturday with the morning practice beginning at 9:15 and the afternoon session scheduled for 4 p.m.
After a day off on Sunday, the Cowboys will resume two-a-day workouts Monday morning. OSU opens the 1997 season on August 30 against Iowa State in Ames, Iowa.
