Iowa State Falls to Oklahoma State

Simmons' scoring run gave Oklahoma State a 21-14 lead, its first advantage of the game. The Cowboys played from behind through three quarters but were able to outplay Iowa State in the second half, outgaining the Cyclones 131 to minus-nine on the ground.
Simmons, the son of Cowboys' head coach Bob Simmons, also scored on a 31-yard run midway through the second quarter to tie the game 7-7. Tony Lindsay's touchdown, a two-yard run midway through the third, evened the game 14-14.
Jamaal Fobbs shared the rushing duties with Simmons, as each ran for 85 yards, Fobbs on 15 carries and Simmons on 16.
Todd Bandhauer connected on two long touchdown passes for the Cyclones, a 75-yard strike to Ed Williams midway through the first quarter and a 28-yarder to Gerrick Bivins in the second. Bandhauer was 18-of-31 for 285 yards with one interception.
Darren Davis, the brother and replacement for Troy Davis, led the Cyclones with 51 yards on 16 carries.
Oklahoma State increased its lead in the all-time series with Iowa State, 22-14-3, and the Cowboys gained their first victory in Ames since a 25-17 win in 1990.
The game marked the earliest that Oklahoma State has opened a season in its 95-year history. The Cowboys began the previous two seasons on the last day of August.
