Cowboys Hit the Practice Field
April 07, 2003 | Cowboy Football
Third-year Oklahoma State coach Bob Simmons welcomed 96 players to the initial workout Saturday morning. The first practice lasted about 90 minutes and consisted mainly of fundamental work.
"I liked what I saw," Simmons said after the workout. "It was the first day and we didn't do a lot of hitting. We went through a lot of teamwork and a lot of fundamental work."
Simmons, who guided OSU to a 5-6 finish a year ago, said it was difficult to point to any individual after one combined practice. "It's hard to single anyone out. I think, for the most part, all of our veterans are doing a good job at this point."
Starting linebacker Kenyatta Wright missed Saturday's workouts with a blood clot in his leg. He is expected to miss just a few days. He did run during much of Saturday's early workout.
The Cowboys will take Sunday off from the practice field before resuming two-a-days Monday. Oklahoma State's first full-pad workout is scheduled for Wednesday, August 13.
