Baseball Upsets No. 20 Oral Roberts, 11-5
April 07, 2003 | Cowboy Baseball
The win snapped Oral Roberts 14-game win streak as OSU won for the eighth time in its last nine games. The Cowboys improved to 20-8 on the year while the Golden Eagles fell to 22-5.
Oklahoma State scored three runs in the bottom of the first; the key hit a RBI triple by second baseman Kevin Lucas, who finished the night 3-for-5 with two runs scored.
Oral Roberts came back to tie the game with three runs of its own in the top of the second when shortstop Jason Clements hit a bases clearing triple to right-center field. Catcher Brian Bowmans RBI single in the next inning gave the Golden Eagles a 4-3 advantage, their only lead of the game.
The Cowboys rallied for three runs in the bottom of the third, two of them coming of a Billy Gasparino triple to rightfield, and took a 6-4 lead that they would not relinquish. Right fielder Matt Mabrey hit a solo homer to leftfield in the fourth which pushed the Cowboy lead to 7-4.
Cowboy starter Dale Pearson got in trouble in the fifth allowing a solo dinger by right fielder Mike Hill which cut the lead to 7-5. Junior Jeremy Krismer relieved Pearson with two outs in the inning and promptly shutdown the Oral Roberts attack for the rest of the game. Krismer did not allow a hit in four and a third innings while striking out seven to move to 2-0 on the season.
The Cowboys added four more runs, two coming off RBI singles by Trevor Leu and Lamont Matthews and another coming of a solo homer by Billy Gasparino in the eighth, his 13th of the year.
The Cowboys will be back in action at home this weekend when they host Kansas State in Big 12 play. The teams will hook up for a 6 p.m. tilt Friday as well as 2 p.m. games on Saturday and Sunday.
