Baseball Loses to Texas
April 07, 2003 | Cowboy Baseball
With Texas leading 6-2 in the fifth, Oklahoma State put six runs on the board to take the lead, highlighted by a two-run double by Tony Lucca (Daly City, Calif./S. San Francisco/Canada JC) and an apparent three-run home run by McCullough. With men on first and second, McCullogh hit the ball over the left field wall but inadvertently passed the runner on first base. According to the rulebook, both men on base were allowed to score, while the batter, McCullough, was ruled out.
Trailing 8-6, Texas tied the game with a single run in the seventh, on a Tommy Nicholson (Anaheim, Calif./Esperanza) RBI groundout, and single run in the eighth as Mark Cridland (Glaveston, Texas/Ball/Galveston JC) connected on his second home run of the day. The two home runs give Cridland a career-high 11 this season.
Frank Halter (Omaha, Neb./Papillon/Seminole JC) picked up the victory in relief for the Longhorns and raised his record to 5-3 on the season, while Danny Prata (Montreal, Quebec/Kells/Seminole JC) suffered the loss in relief for the Cowboys and dropped to 5-2. Of note for Texas, Carlos Sepulveda (Lake Jackson, Texas/Brazoswood) went 3-for-4 with two runs scored on the day, including a two-out single in the bottom of the 10th to start the rally. Meanwhile, the cowboys had five players record multiple-hit games, highlighted by Marc Fournier (Lasalle, Quebec/ Cavelier de Lasalle/Seminole JC), who went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
