Texas A&M Defeats Oklahoma State 4-2

COLLEGE STATION, Texas- Texas A&M used a solid pitching performance by starter Zach Dixon and clutch hitting to get past Oklahoma State 4-2 in baseball action Sunday afternoon at Olsen Field.
A&M claimed the series with the win and improved to 32-12 and 12-6 in the Big 12, while Oklahoma State fell to 26-13 and 9-6 in league action.
Dixon scattered eight hits in six innings of work, allowing just two runs while striking out seven to improve to 5-1 on the year.
The Aggies scored the first run of the game in the second inning when shortstop Matt Alexander delivered a two-out RBI single to left field off of Cowboy starter Joe Weaver.
A&M added another run in the fifth on a two-out RBI single by third baseman Cliff Pennington. Designated hitter Jordy Mitchell made it 4-0 with a two-run homer to left in the sixth inning.
The Cowboys cut the lead to 4-2 in the seventh when left fielder Jeff Tuttle opened the inning with a double down the right field line and scored on a RBI single by right fielder Craig Bartosh. Bartosh would later score on a RBI groundout by pinch hitter Lyndsey Simmons.
The Cowboys had a runner on with one-out in the ninth, but could not get to A&M closer Scott Beerer who retired the final two batters to record his eighth save of the year.
Joe Weaver took the loss to drop to 3-3 on the season. He gave up all four runs on six hits in 6.2 innings of work with one strikeout and five walks.
Craig Bartosh led the Pokes with a career-high three hits at the plate, while Jeff Tuttle chipped in with two hits as well.
Oklahoma State will be back in action tomorrow as the team heads to Arlington to take on Texas-Arlington at 4 p.m. The Cowboys will then be out of action until the weekend, when the three-game Bedlam series against Oklahoma begins.
