Cowboy Golf Finishes Second at U.S. Intercollegiate

The Cowboys, who entered the day tied for third with UC-Irvine and Fresno State with a 36-hole total of 567, came in 10 shots behind tournament champion UCLA and one shot clear of the event’s third-place squad San Diego State.
The Aztecs’ Mark Warman came from two strokes back to claim medalist honors, finishing with a two-over 73 on Sunday for a seven-under total of 206. OSU junior Hunter Mahan came in two strokes off the pace at five-under after carding a 73 during his final round. The McKinney, Texas native earned his fifth top-10 finish of the season, tying the Bruins’ John Merrick for fourth place.
Making his return to the lineup, redshirt freshman Zack Robinson fired the Cowboys’ low score of the day with a 68, moving him from a tie for 30th into a four-way deadlock for the 15th position with an even-par, 213 total.
After opening the tournament with a five-over 76, true freshman Chris Clarke played his final 36 holes in three-under after Sunday’s round of 70 to conclude play tied for 22nd at two-over.
Junior Pär Nilsson came in with a one-over 72 after posting rounds of 77 and 69 to tie with two other players for 34th place at 218, five-over-par.
Sophomore Dayton Rose recorded his second 73 of the tournament on Sunday to round out the OSU lineup with a nine-over total of 222 to place 46th.
The Cowboys will return to action on April 28 when they travel to Tulsa, Okla., for the Big 12 Championship at Southern Hills Country Club.
