Baker, a preseason All-American, is expected to have a big season as the No. 1 starter.
2002: A second team All-Big 12 pick ... went 6-3 with a 4.23 ERA ... struck out 47 batters in 76.2 innings of work ... six wins tied for the team lead ... opponents hit .263 against him ... especially tough on righthanders, limiting them to a .228 clip against him ... led the team with three complete games ... struck out a season high six three times: Delaware (2/24), Nebraska (4/20) and Oklahoma (5/16) ... pitched 5.2 innings of three-hit shutout ball against Arizona State (3/10) and left with a 2-0 lead in the sixth ... pitched a three-hit, complete game shutout against Oral Roberts (4/15) ... pitched three consecutive complete games against Oral Roberts, Nebraska and Texas ... only allowed one earned run in eight innings against Texas (4/26), but took a 3-2 loss ... was a Cape Cod League All-Star and helped lead the Orleans Cardinals to the championship series ... Went 3-1 with a 1.61 ERA in nine starts with 52 strikeouts in 56 innings ... was rated the 15th best prospect out of the Cape by Baseball America.
2001: Named to the Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American team by Collegiate Baseball ... went 6-2 with a 4.05 ERA and 40 strikeouts in 53.1 innings pitched ... missed the final six weeks of the season with a sore arm ... was impressive against Texas Tech(3/25), working eight innings and giving up one run to earn his fifth win ... got fourth win against Princeton (3/10) with five innings of six-hit ball ... tossed six innings, striking out five and limited Kansas (3/5) to one earned run to notch his third win ... picked up his second win against Boston College (2/10), striking out six in six innings ... was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week after picking up a win in his debut against UC Riverside (2/4) at the Caballero Classic ... pitched five shutout innings and gave up only two hits against the Highlanders.
HIGH SCHOOL: All-state, all-district and all-city performer as a senior at Captain Shreve High ... was a four-year letterwinner as a pitcher/shortstop ... led team to the state playoffs as a senior and finished the year with an 8-2 record on the mound while batting .455 ... was named a USA Today Honorable Mention All-American after senior year ... Baseball America had him listed as the 10th best professional prospect in Louisiana .... helped lead American Legion Shreveport Rangers squad to a tournament victory in New York which showcased some of the top high school players in the country; finished with a 5-1 ledger and 0.86 ERA ... was drafted in 36th round by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 2000 amateur baseball draft ... also considered LSU, Alabama, Louisiana-Monroe, Louisiana Tech and Arkansas.
