Lauren improved her game and gained international exposure over the summer, playing for the Canadian National Team in the World Softball Championships.
Spring 2002: Lauren was one of the top pitchers in the Big 12, amassing a 19-14 record with a 1.27 earned run average. She had a record-breaking season on the mound, moving up in several categories including holding the top spot in the Cowgirl record book for season strikeouts with 314 in 230-2/3 innings of work. Her career strikeouts stand at 700, good for second and just 74 short of first. Lauren is also tied for the lead in strikeouts in a game after fanning 19 batters in nine innings of work against Nebraska. The lefthander threw 26 complete games and recorded seven shutouts last season. At the plate, Lauren had a .173 batting average, with five doubles and two home runs. She was also 2-for-3 on stolen bases. Bay earned Big 12 Pitcher of the Week honors for her record-setting performance against Nebraska. She was named first-team All-Big 12 as a pitcher in addition to being a first-team All-Region selection. Bay was also a standout in the classroom, earning first-team Academic All-Big 12 and first-team Verizon Academic All-District.
Fall 2001: Lauren did not see action during the fall season due to injury.
Spring 2001: Lauren was a dominating pitcher in the Big 12 Conference this past season, and added offense to her already potential arsenal. On the mound, she accumulated a 15-11 record with a 1.25 earned run average. That ERA was as low as 0.63 towards the latter part of the season. She had 190 strikeouts in 173-2/3 innings, an average of 7.7 Ks per seven innings. She also had a 2.44 strikeout-to-walk ratio, compared to a 1.90 ratio her freshman season. At the plate, Lauren had a .300 batting average with 30 hits in 100 at-bats to lead the team. She had five doubles and two home runs, good enough for a .410 slugging percentage. She also led the Cowgirls with a .377 on-base percentage. She was named first-team All-Big 12 as a pitcher/designated player, and earned first-team All-Midwest Region status as a utility player. She was named first-team Academic All-Big 12 for her efforts in the classroom.
Fall 2000: Lauren was 7-0 with a 0.19 earned run average in seven appearances during the fall season. She started five games with four complete games and three shutouts. Lauren struck out 42 batters in 36-1/3 innings, an average of 8.1 strikeouts per seven innings. She had a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 5.25, and gave up a .066 batting average to opposing hitters, giving up just eight hits in 121 at-bats. At the plate, Lauren was 9-for-18 with a double and four RBIs.
Spring 2000: Lauren was the primary pitcher on the staff her freshman season, making 37 appearances and throwing 200-2/3 innings. She finished with a 15-14 record and a 1.88 earned run average. She had 196 strikeouts and five shutouts. For her efforts, Lauren was named second-team All-Big 12. Lauren had a 1.91 strikeout-to-walk ratio, and averaged 6.84 strikeouts per seven innings. She started 26 games with 17 complete games, and had three saves.
Fall 1999: Lauren was 2-0 with a 0.00 earned run average in 20 innings. She had wins over Tulsa (3-0) and Butler (5-0). In all, she had four appearances, three starts, two complete games and two shutouts. Lauren struck out 26 batters, an average of 9.1 Ks per game. Opponent batters hit at a .062 average against her.
Prep: Laurens high school did not have a softball team, but she did play for the White Rock Renegades. Her team won the British Columbia and Canada national championships in both 1998 and '99. Lauren was named the Most Valuable Player of the Canadian Nationals in both seasons. Lauren played for Team Canada at the World Championships in the summer of 1999, and her team finished seventh. She also played basketball for three seasons and volleyball for four years. She was named the Female Athlete of the Year as a junior.
Personally: Born August 9, 1981, Lauren is the daughter of David and Kelly Bay. She has a brother, Jason (24), who played baseball at Gonzaga and currently plays for the San Diego Padres organization. Lauren is majoring in international business at Oklahoma State, and enjoys hanging out with friends and working out in her spare time.
