Hunter Mahan Named to U.S. Palmer Cup Squad

The McKinney, Texas native will join Texas Jason Hartwick, Ryan Moore of UNLV, Californias Peter Tomasulo, Bill Haas of Wake Forest, North Carolinas Dustin Bray, TCUs Adam Rubinson and Brandt Snedeker of Vanderbilt when they compete against the European team July 7-11 at The Kiawah Island Clubs Cassique course in Kiawah Island, S.C. Georgia Techs Bruce Heppler will coach the U.S. squad.
A PING First-Team All-American last season and second-team selection as a freshman, Mahan will be making his second appearance on the Palmer Cup team. The inaugural recipient of the Southern Golf Association's National Amateur of the Month and Big 12 Conference Golfer of the Month for March, Mahan leads the Big 12 with a 70.95 stroke average.
Mahan was named Big 12 Player of the Year and was named to the U.S. World Amateur Team in 2002. The Cowboy junior will begin play in The Masters Tournament this Thursday.
Last year, Mahan posted a 1-2-1 record to help the U.S. squad to its second consecutive Palmer Cup title. Overall, the Americans hold a 4-1-1 mark against the European team and have won all three matches in the United States.
