Shane Roller

2002: Roller was one of four All-Americans returning to the Cowboy lineup and earned All-America honors after placing fourth at the NCAA Championships. He won his first six matches before losing to Minnesotas Luke Becker. Roller then tallied 14 straight victories, before losing to Josh Janson of Ohio State in the National Duals. Roller finished the year with a 32-7 record, improving his career record to 76-38. Roller went 19-3 in duals and accumulated the most dual points with 89. At the NCAA Championships, he wrestled his way to the semifinals after defeating Mike Tolar and Brad Harper. In the quarterfinals, Roller pinned fifth-seeded Scott Owen in 3:48. He suffered his first setback in the semifinals to nemesis Bryan Snyder. In the wrestlebacks, Roller pinned Ryan Bertin in 5:41 but fell to Yoshi Nakamura in the third-place match. Roller was selected to wrestle at the NWCA All-Star match where he upset second-ranked Yoshi Nakamura, 2-1.
2001: Roller had a stunning performance at the NCAA Tournament, placing third and earning All-America honors. Roller posted an 18-12 record last season, while winning nine out of his last 11 matches.
2000: Roller wrestled more matches than any other Cowboy in 2000 with 45, going 26-19 and qualifying for the NCAA Tournament. He was the lone freshman in OSUs starting lineup. He has wrestled a total of six matches against the No. 1, No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6-ranked 157-pounders in the nation. In his first action in a Cowboy singlet, Roller decisioned Missouris Jesse Jordan 6-4. At the NCAA Championships, Roller suffered a 3-2 loss to a tough Mike Ziska of Pittsburgh. In the wrestlebacks, he returned to his winning ways by winning a 5-2 decision over Duquesnes Bill Boeh and pinning 10th-seeded Gary Maynard of Michigan State in 1:59. He was eliminated by Illinois Griff Powell 10-6. Roller finished fourth at the Big 12 Tournament and earned a wild card into the NCAA Championships. He won one open tournament for the Cowboys, taking home the 157-pound title at the Cliff Keen Classic in Tulsa with a 11-1 decision over UCOs Nathan Gomez.
1999: Roller wrestled in open tournaments for OSU during his redshirt season, posting a 14-4 record. He won both the Central Missouri and Missouri Valley Opens at 165. He also competed in the FILA Junior Men's National Championships over the summer in Colorado Springs, Colo.
High School: He had a stellar career, finishing with a 141-3 record en route to four state championships. He was selected as an Asics Frist-Team All-American, named the outstanding wrestler at the High School Nationals and picked for the Dream Team and Dapper Dan Duals. Not only a standout wrestler, he was a four-year two-way starter in football and an all-conference baseball player. He is also a outstanding student as he was the salutatorian of his high school class and a member of the National Honor Society. He garnered one of the most prestigious awards for high-school student athletes, the Dave Schulz leadership award and the Jim Thorpe award.
Personal: He is the son of Beverly and Jack Roller Jr. He has three brothers, Keith, Mike and Jimmy. All three played sports in college. Keith played football, and Mike and Jimmy wrestled. He is undecided on a major and enjoys fishing and meeting new people. He was born July 14, 1979.
