Karl Dunbar, a former college standout and six-year NFL veteran at defensive tackle, enters his first season as defensive line coach at Oklahoma State.
Dunbar comes to Oklahoma State after spending two seasons as assistant strength and conditioning coordinator at LSU. Prior to that, he spent two seasons as defensive line coach at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, La.
He was a standout defensive lineman for LSU from 1986-89, earning All-Southeastern Conference honors as a senior. Dunbar spent six seasons in the NFL after his stellar LSU career. He was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1990 NFL draft, then played for the New Orleans Saints in 1993 and the Arizona Cardinals from 1994-95.
He began his coaching career as the defensive line coach at Opelousas (La.) High School in 1996, then served as defensive coordinator at Beau Chene High School in Arnaudville, La., in 1997.
Dunbar graduated from LSU with a degree in criminal justice in 1992. He is married to the former Pamela Angelle, and has three children, Karmichael MacKenzie II, Mickel Angelle and Nickolette Alyce.
