Cowboys Drop Arizona State, 38-3, to Advance to Semifinals

The Cowboys (8-0, 2-0) won nine of the 10 bouts en route to victory. Holman began the scoring spree, by pinning Aaron Suzuki in 2:59, while Johnny Thompson used a late takedown in the third period to defeat Mike Simpson, 6-4.
Arizona State (6-4, 1-0) recorded its only points when fourth-ranked Dana Holland edged out Ronnie Delk, 8-6.
Jerrod Sanders major decisioned Chris Smith to extend the Cowboy lead to 13-3. Sanders would score a two-point nearfall and a three-point nearfall, at the end of the match, to notch the major.
Shane Roller, Tyrone Lewis and Chad Reid all recorded decisions at 157, 165 and 174 pounds, respectively.
Reid wrestled in his first match of the tournament. He recorded an escape in the second period and held on for 1:55 in the third to take the 2-1 victory.
Muhammed Lawal notched 10 takedowns before capturing the 23-8 major decision.
The Cowboys will wrestle Ohio State at 8:30 p.m. (EST) in the semifinals.
