Three Cowboy Golfers Earn Ping All-America Honors

Sophomore Hunter Mahan was one of ten players selected to the squad's first team. The McKinney, Texas, native posted three wins in his inaugural season with the Cowboys and led the squad with a 70.51 stroke average. Mahan was the Cowboys' top finisher in nine tournaments and fired a school record 10-under-par 62 on his way to victory at the U.S. Collegiate in April.
The transfer from Southern California recorded nine top-10 finishes this season, including a third-place finish at the NCAA Championship last week, on his way to being named to the U.S. Palmer Cup squad, the Big 12 Player of the Year and a finalist for the Ben Hogan Award. Mahan was a second-team All-American last season for USC.
Senior Anders Hultman received honorable mention plaudits after claiming his fourth career victory at the Big 12 Championship in April and carrying a 72.30 stroke average on the year. The Gothenburg, Sweden, native had four top 10s this season and was OSU's top finisher on four occasions.
Hultman, who was a third-team pick as a sophomore and a first-team selection last season, tallied 34 rounds in the 60s and 15 finishes in the top 10 during his collegiate career.
For the second consecutive season, sophomore Pär Nilsson was tabbed as an honorable mention selection. The Ljungsbro, Sweden, native closed out the 2001-02 season with a strong finish, posting three top 10s in OSU's final six events. His best finish came at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational where he fired a career-best 65 on his way to a tie for fourth.
Nilsson concluded the NCAA Championship last week with back-to-back sub-70 rounds to end play in a tie for eighth place. He finished the season with the squad's second-best stroke average (70.38).
