Soccer Goes Undefeated In Spain
April 15, 2003 | Cowgirl Soccer
The two teams battled to a standstill for most of the first half until sophomore Jolene Schweitzer broke the stalemate at the 42:17 mark on an assist from Bonnie Thompson.
Thompson earned her second assist of the night less than one minute later when junior Joanne Edwards found the back of the net to put the Cowgirls up, 2-0, at the half.
The final goal of the night came from sophomore Leah Carr eight minutes into the second half on an assist from sophomore Nikki Wojtowicz.
Senior Kat Doud and freshman Kendra Rainbolt combined for the shutout in goal, with Doud earning the starting nod.
Oklahoma State showed a glimpse of the balanced offensive attack it will bring to the field this season with ten different Cowgirls earning points while in Spain. Jolene Schweitzer paced the team with four goals and three assists in three games.
"The opportunity to come to Spain has been irreplaceable," said Head Coach Karen Hancock. "These games can only help us be more prepared for the start of the season later this month."
The Cowgirls return to action Sunday, August 25, when they travel to Springfield, Mo., to face Southwest Missouri State in exhibition action. The regular season will kick off on Friday, August 30, in Tulsa.
