April 15, 2003 | Cowboy Golf
OSU golfers Charles Howell and Landry Mahan had impressive second rounds today at the U.S. Amateur Championship at Oak Hill Country Club.
Play was suspended Tuesday evening with 92 golfers still on the course, but Howell is second among players in the clubhouse after carding a 66 today on the par-70 West Course. His 36-hole score of 136 trails current leader Joel Kribel by one stroke.
Mahan carded a two-over-par 71 on the par-69 East Course and is tied for 26th among players who have finished their stroke play.
After the second round is completed Wednesday morning, the low 64 scorers will advance to match play. The tournament continues throughout the week and concludes Sunday with a 36-hole match.
The OSU men's golf season opens Sept. 28-29, when the Cowboys compete in the Preview tournament at Hazeltine Country Club in Minneapolis.
