Cowgirl Soccer Sneaks Past Texas Tech, 2-0
April 15, 2003 | Cowgirl Soccer
Oklahoma State held a narrow 6-5 shot advantage after the first period of play, but registered just one shot on goal.
The Cowgirl offense caught fire in the second stanza, out shooting the Red Raiders 10-3. Defender Marcela Nová broke the stalemate 20 minutes into the period, snagging her first goal of the season on a double assist from Nikki Wojtowicz and Courtney Robb.
Wojtowicz took the corner kick and after shuffling the ball to Robb, took it back and sent it to Nová in the middle for the game winner.
The game remained tense until the 82nd minute when Oklahoma State received help from an unlikely source, the Texas Tech defense.
Jolene Schweitzer made a break for the goal and had her shot deflected, but Red Raider defender Roxanne Frilot knocked the ball over the goal line to give the Cowgirls the final two-goal advantage.
Wojtowicz, currently ranked sixth in the nation in assists per game, maintained her position with the touch to Nová, and now has nine assists in nine games.
Oklahoma State (9-0, 1-0) closes out the weekend by hosting the Baylor Bears at 1 p.m. on Sunday. The first 1000 fans in attendance will receive Cowgirl Soccer trading cards and the team will be signing autographs after the contest.
