Cowboy Golf Advances To Second Round At Match Play Championship
April 15, 2003 | Cowboy Golf
The Cowboys, who entered as the event's No. 8 seed, got wins from sophomores Alex Norén and Dayton Rose and true freshman Chris Clarke to defeat the ninth-seeded Rockets.
Norén defeated Richard Kilpatrick 2 and 1, while Rose posted a 3 and 2 victory over Sean McTernan to go along with Clarke's 2-up triumph over David Jones.
Redshirt freshman Zack Robinson halved his match with Brad Heaven and true freshman Michael Ostrich suffered the Cowboys' only setback, a 3 and 1 defeat.
With the win, OSU advanced to a second-round matchup against the event's top seed, Clemson. The tournament was suspended due to darkness with the Tigers leading in four of their five matches against the Cowboys.
The event, which features the top 16 teams from the 2002 NCAA Championship, will resume tomorrow morning at 7:45.
