Hanspard's 272 Yards Whip Cowboys
April 14, 2003 | Cowboy Football
Hanspard, who left last week's loss to Kansas State with a sprained ankle, carried 29 times. He had touchdown runs of 72 yards in the first quarter and two yards in the fourth quarter.
Hanspard recorded his eighth straight game with at least 100 yards. The junior broke the school mark of 268 yards set by James Hadnot against New Mexico in 1978 and shattered the Texas Stadium record of 241 established by Eric Dickerson of Southern Methodist vs. Houston in 1982.
Jaret Greaser kicked four field goals for the Red Raiders (1-1), who were beaten 21-14 last week in the first-ever Big 12 game. Zebbie Lethridge completed 6-of-15 passes for 60 yards and added 44 yards on seven carries.
David Thompson rushed for 74 yards on 14 carries for Oklahoma State, which last week needed overtime to defeat Division I-AA foe Southwest Missouri State. The Cowboys fell to 8-13-3 in the all-time series, which had been dormant since 1989.
Greaser kicked a 40-yard field goal just 2:13 into the game to give the Red Raiders the lead for good. A 72-yard scamper by Hanspard in the final minute of the first quarter built the lead to 10-0.
Field goals of 40 and 42 yards by Greaser just over four minutes apart preceded a 70-yard drive, capped by a one-yard scoring run by Brad Spinks with 22 seconds left before halftime.
Tim Sydnes kicked a 36-yard field goal in the final minute of the third quarter to finally get the Cowboys on the scoreboard. Hanspard scored again less than three minutes later and Greaser added a 37-yard field goal.
