Cowboys Open Season With 36-26 Victory Over Tulsa
April 14, 2003 | Cowboy Football
Tulsa's Josh Blankenship was 28-of-49 for 373 yards and two touchdowns, but fumbled twice in the first quarter to set up two Oklahoma State scores.
Lindsay was 11-of-20 for 166 yards, and Reggie White ran for 187 yards and a touchdown. About 50 of White's yards came in the fourth quarter as the Cowboys sealed the victory with Seth Condley's 32-yard field goal.
The victory was Oklahoma State's first in its last three visits to Skelly Stadium, and the Cowboys' second straight victory over the Golden Hurricane (0-2).
Following Blankenship's first fumble, Oklahoma State opened the scoring on White's 35-yard run. After the second fumble, Lindsay threw an 18-yard TD pass to Willie Young.
Oklahoma State made it 21-0 on Lindsay's 34-yard touchdown pass to Young late in the first quarter.
After Donte' Hart's 5-yard touchdown made it 21-7 early in the second, Tulsa recovered an onside kick and Chris Earnest kicked a 47-yard field goal to make it 21-10.
White fumbled on the next drive, which led to Earnest's second field goal and Blankenship hit Corey Brown to make it 21-19. But Oklahoma State's Elbert Craig intercepted a 2-point try and returned it 98 yards to give the Cowboy's a 23-19 advantage.
Lindsey threw a 9-yard TD pass to Marcellus Rivers with five seconds left in the half.
Blankenship hit Andrew LeCrone from 15 yards out for Tulsa's lone second-half score with 6:50 remaining.
