Oklahoma State concluded spring football drills Friday afternoon with a full-gear workout on Lewis Field that featured an extensive scrimmage.
The Pokes worked for nearly three hours under sunny skies as they completed their 15th session of the spring.
An extensive scrimmage highlighted the final two hours of the workout. All-American receiver Rashaun Woods, as he did in 2002, led the way for the Cowboy offense. The Oklahoma City senior hauled in seven receptions for 143 yards and had three touchdowns.
Woods' first touchdown came on the first extended offensive possession. Woods caught a Jamie Beeghley pass and scampered 86 yards for the score. He would score two more, including a 14-yarder, also from Beeghley and a five-yard strike when the offense was working on short-yardage situations inside the 10 yard line.
D'Juan Woods was the second-leading receiver for the Cowboys, catching two passes for 93 yards, including a long of 59 yards.
Beeghley had an impressive afternoon for the Cowboys at quarterback. With junior starter Josh Fields attending to baseball duties, Beeghley recorded extensive playing time during Friday's scrimmage and finished with 266 yards on a 13-of-32 passing performance. He threw three touchdowns and only one interception.
Tailback Seymore Shaw led all rushers with 22 carries for 88 yards and a touchdown while Greg Jones had 13 carries for 69 yards and a pair of touchdowns, both coming in short-yardage situations.
On the defensive side, defensive back Vernon Grant led the team with seven tackles, six of which were unassisted. Linebacker Paul Duren, OSU's leading tackler a year ago, had six tackles, including one for minus four yards. The only interception of the day was recorded by transfer Robert Jones.
"It certainly wasn't perfect but I thought we accomplished some things today," said head coach Les Miles after the workout. "This team went about its business this spring and will certainly take some positives into the summer. We're also well aware of the areas we need to improve."
The Cowboys will open the 2003 season on August 30 against Nebraska in Lincoln. OSU's first home appearance of the 2003 season will be Sept. 6 against Wyoming.
