Cowboys Pin Their Way into the Quarterfinals

The Cowboys boasted five bonus-point victories in the second round to extend their point total to 35, eight and a half points more than the next closest team, Lehigh.
Rounding out the top five are Oklahoma with 25.5 points, Minnesota at 23 points and Illinois and Iowa are tied for fifth with 19.5 points.
Tyrone Lewis recorded his second fall of the tournament, pinning Northern Iowa's Drew Kelly in 1:26. The El Reno, Okla., native stormed out to a 4-2 lead over Kelly before using a lateral drop to record the fall.
Johnny Thompson and Chris Pendleton each recorded their second bonus-point victories. Thompson needed one takedown before pinning Matt Sanchez of Cal St. Bakersfield in 2:01, while Pendleton stormed out to an 11-2 lead before recording the fall in 5:55 over Buffalo's Gary Cooper.
Muhammed Lawal used five takedowns before recording the 13-3 major decision over Illinois' Tyrone Byrd. The win gave Lawal his second major decision of the tournament.
Shane Roller and Jake Rosholt each recorded decisions at 157 and 184 pounds, respectively. Roller took a 2-0 lead into the second frame and extended his lead 3-0 after scoring an escape to open the second.
Matt Lebe, West Virginia, then cut Roller's lead to 3-2 after recording a takedown. Roller then extended his lead to 8-4 after escaping Lebe and recording a takedown with a two-point nearfall. The Bixby, Okla., native then recorded a takedown in the third before handing Lebe the 11-5 loss.
Rosholt recorded a pair of takedowns in the first period to take the early 4-2 lead over Cleveland State's Gerald Harris.
Harris cut Rosholt's lead to 6-5 at the end of the second period after recording a takedown and a technical violation point. Rosholt then opened up the scoring in the third, recording a takedown with a two-point nearfall to grab the 13-7 victory. Jerrod Sanders advanced to the quarterfinals after scoring a takedown late in the third period to defeat Jody Giuricich of Pennsylvania, 6-4.
West Virginia's Shane Cunanan upset Zack Esposito, 3-1 in sudden victory, while Skyler Holman lost his second match of the tournament, losing a 12-7 decision to Minnesota's Bobby Lowe.
The quarterfinals are slated to start tomorrow at 10 a.m.
