Cowboy Golfers Head To Big 12 Championships
April 10, 2003 | Cowboy Golf
The 54-hole tournament opens on Monday with 36 holes while the final 18 are slated for Tuesday. OSU, along with Texas and Oklahoma, will tee off at 8 a.m. on the first tee.
The Cowboys took the title in record fashion in 2000. OSU tied or broke 13 individual and team tournament records, including the lowest winning team score (851), lowest winning individual score (200) and the largest margin of victory by a team and an individual at 12 and 10 strokes, respectively.
The Cowboys enter the tournament fresh off their second top-five finish of the spring after firing a 15-under-par team total at the ASU Thunderbird/SAVANE in Tempe, Arizona.
Junior Anders Hultman notched his second victory of the season after carding a10-under total of 206 at the Karsten Course.
TOURNAMENT HISTORY The Cowboys have captured three of the four Big 12 Tournament crowns with the lone exception coming in 1999 when the Kansas Jayhawks laid claim to the title.
OSU has also produced a pair of individual medalists as well. Last year, Charles Howell finished at the head of the pack after scorching the course with a 10-under-par score of 200 to claim a 10-stroke victory over teammate Edward Loar.
With the win, Howell joined Leif Westerberg, who won the inaugural tournament in 1997, as the Pokes' other Big 12 champion and become the school's 39th conference medalist.
