Question : who do you think is your best batter?
Keeton,
It's hard to say who is our best hitter. Baseball is a long season with
many ups and downs. The players who can work themselves through the rough
times will be the most successful in the end. This is the reason juniors
and senoirs are many times the best hitters on the team.
This years team is full of potential and later in the year you will be able
to see yourself. Right now, because of their experience from last year, I
would say Josh Fields, Jason Jaramillo and Jose Virgil have proven they can
handle Division I college baseball pitching. We have several others, I
believe, that will have much success when they relax and trust their
abilities.

Question : HAVE YOU HAD A SECOND BASEMEN AS GOOD AS THE ONE IN 1999? DO YOU
HAVE ANYONE THAT CAN BUNT LIKE THAT KID?
Kevin "Luke",
Luke it is good to hear from you. I have to admit you were one of the best
second baseman since I have been coaching at OSU. The team around you
wasn't to shabby either.
I think we may have a future bunter in the making and he's only a freshman,
Chris Gutierrez. Half the battle is having confidence to use it and he
does.
Just like you, Gasparino and company that year gave me ulcers along with
many more good memories, the teams every year are still doing the same.
Take Care and Good Luck. Tell everyone I said Hi and don't be afraid to
come see us if you get a chance.

Question : Has the college game changed a lot since you played? Do you think
the college baseball player worries more about the draft then getting to play in
Corwin,
I think college baseball has changed over the years. When I came out of high school the money in the draft wasn't a big issue and college baseball was on the rise. It was an easy decision for me. I don't want to give my age away but cable TV and ESPN was just beginning. The internet was unknown. Now kids are very knowledgable about current rosters and even listen to all the games on the internet.
As for the draft, the money is hard for an 18 year old to turn down. Nowadays, the high drafts will become millionaires over night. When I played there wasn't a millionaire playing in the Big Leagues.
The actual game has changed some but not for the bad. The bat diameters are smaller and the exit velocity is monitored. The strike zone changes every year and players are no longer allowed out of the box during their at bats. Small rule changes have affected the way we coach and do things but there is always two teams on the same field with the same rules and one has to win and it might as well be us.
