Oklahoma State Edges Past Grambling 2-1 In 10 Innings

HOUSTON, Texas- Centerfielder Jose Virgil hit a game-winning RBI double in the bottom of the 10th inning to give Oklahoma State a 2-1 win over Grambling Saturday afternoon at Husky Field.
Shortstop Shawn Callahan, who reached on a one-out single, scored on Virgil's base hit as the Cowboys improved to 4-5 on the year.
The Tigers fell to 2-3 on the year. Both teams will meet again in the second game of a doubleheader Sunday afternoon.
The Cowboys got on the board in the first inning on a RBI single by first baseman John Urick. The Tigers tied the game in the second when first baseman Jacobi Frank scored from third on an attempted steal of second base by third baseman Kevin Camp.
Jimmy Rhodes racked up a career high eight strikeouts in six innings of work. He allowed one run on four hits with two walks, but did not factor in the decision. Reliever Cody King also recorded a career-high eight strikeouts in three innings of work.
Joe Weaver (1-2) pitched a scoreless tenth inning to pick up his first win of the year. Overall the pitching staff recorded 17 strikeouts on the afternoon.
Catcher Jason Jaramillo led the Cowboys with two hits while Virgil extended his hit streak to nine games to lead the offense.
Kennedy McFarland (1-2) took the loss for the Tigers to drop to 1-2.
OSU will be back in action against Nicholls State at 7 p.m. at the University of Houston. Junior righthander Scott Baker is slated to start for the Pokes.
