Oklahoma State Deflates Stetson 9-0

DELAND, Fla. - Junior ace righthander Scott Baker recorded a career-high eight strikeouts in seven innings of shutout baseball to lead Oklahoma State to a 9-0 win over No. 18 Stetson Saturday night at Melching Field.
The Cowboys (1-1) picked up their first win of the season while the Hatters dropped to 1-1.
Baker (1-0) scattered five hits with two walks before he was relieved by Daniel Rew in the seventh. Rew closed out the game with two scoreless innings of work.
OSU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first, taking advantage of a Stetson error in the outfield and two-run single by leftfielder Jeff Tuttle.
Catcher Jason Jaramillo added a RBI double in the third to push the lead to 4-0 and freshman shortstop Chris Gutierrez made it 5-0 with a RBI single in the sixth.
The Cowboys blew the game open in the seventh with four runs, two coming via a two-run double by Jaramillo. Sophomore Ryan Olivo added a RBI single in the inning as the Pokes extended the lead to 9-0.
Second baseman Kenny Hansley, centerfielder Jose Virgil, third baseman Josh Fields, Jaramillo and Gutierrez each had two hits to lead Oklahoma State.
Senior southpaw Roger Lincoln took the loss for the Hatters, giving up two earned runs and 11 hits in six innings of work with six strikeouts. Second baseman Brian Snyder led Stetson at the plate with a 4-for-4 night.
Oklahoma State will close out the tournament Sunday at 11 a.m. against Florida A&M. The Rattlers beat South Florida 16-9 in the early game on Saturday.
