SURPRISE, Ariz. - Arizona State took advantage of two costly Oklahoma State errors in the bottom of the fifth inning and scored six runs en route to a 7-3 win in college baseball action Saturday night at Surprise Stadium.
OSU took a 1-0 in the second on a RBI single by leftfielder Ryan Olivo that plated Jason Jaramillo who reached on a triple to straight away centerfield to start the inning.
Cowboy starter Scott Baker cruised through four innings, not allowing a run until a leadoff walk sparked the Sun Devil rally in the fifth. ASU centerfielder followed the walk with a ground ball to Baker who threw the ball wide of second baseman Kenny Hansley and into centerfield. Shortstop Dustin Pedroia followed with a two-run triple to give ASU a 2-1 lead. The Sun Devils then capitalized on a fielding error by Hansley to score four more runs in the inning to take a 6-1 advantage.
The Cowboys chipped away at the lead with a RBI single by John Urick in the seventh and a RBI groundout by Chris Gutierrez in the eighth to cut the advantage to 6-3.
ASU cut the rally short in the bottom of the inning, scoring another run to make the final score 7-3.
