TUCSON, Ariz. - Oklahoma State continued its dominant play at the Worth Invitational, cruising past Drake, 15-1, to close out the weekend 5-0.
After ending the last game against Virginia with a grand slam, Stephanie Nicholson led off the first inning with a home run that was a small preview of what would come. Oklahoma State took control of the game from the start, posting a commanding 6-0 lead after the first inning of play.
Crystal Lee, Stephanie Hodges and Nicholson each had RBI singles in the frame. An error by Drake's Mollie Daniels also proved costly as it allowed two runs to cross home plate to close out the inning.
It must have been Nicholson's day as she collected her third RBI in the bottom of the third, a single to left field that scored Hodges.
The Cowgirls then scored eight runs on four hits and two errors in the fourth to enforce the mercy-rule. The inning was capped off by a two-out home run from Afton Burris that scored Calli Behmer and Nicholson.
Lauren Bay went the distance on the mound, improving to 4-2 on the year. She allowed two hits, one walk and fanned 11 batters. After recording 30 strikeouts this weekend, Bay has 772 career fans, just shy of the record (774) currently held by Melanie Roche.
Oklahoma State (9-3) opens a two-game homestand on Wednesday, hosting the first round of the annual series with Wichita State at 6 p.m.
