November 14, 2003 | Cowboy Wrestling
Nathan Morgan, Coleman Scott and Brandon Mason all signed a national letter of intent to wrestle for the Cowboys next season.
“These are great young men that represent everything we want in a student-athlete,” Smith said. “Not only are they accomplished wrestlers, but they are also accomplished students. All of us are very excited to have them as a part of our program.”
Scott, a 125 pounder, is a two-time Pennsylvania State Champion from Waynesburg, Pa., and is going for his third title this year. The Junior National Freestyle Champion is ranked first in the nation for his weight class this year.
“I loved the atmosphere at OSU,” Scott said. “I like the coaches, the team and I like the fact that wrestling is one of the top sports.”
Morgan, whose father was an All-American at Cal Poly, is going for his third state championship for Bakersfield High School. The Bakersfield, Calif., native is the top-ranked 130-pound wrestler in the nation.
“There were a lot of things that I weighed in my decision to sign at OSU,” Morgan said. “I like the atmosphere of wrestling. I like the fact that everyone in the room is going for the same goals, whether it is to win an NCAA team title and individual title.”
Mason hails from Council Bluffs, Iowa, where he is a two-time Iowa State Champion under the direction of Chad Beamen. Nationally, he is the second-ranked wrestler at 171 pounds, as well as a Jr. Freestyle All-American, a Cadet Freestyle Champion, Academic All-American and Academic All-State.
“Oklahoma State has the best coaching staff in the country,” Mason said. “The upper weights are performing well, and they have the momentum right now.”
