November 13, 2003 | Cowgirl Soccer
The 64-team NCAA Tournament bracket was announced, and OSU (15-4-3) will head to Tallassee, Fla., to face the Southeastern Conference's Auburn (13-3-2) in the first round. Game times have not been set, but the teams will play on Friday, Nov. 14.
“We are really excited to be in the tournament for the first time,” said head coach Karen Hancock. “We're excited to make history here at Oklahoma State. I'm also elated that the Big 12 received eight bids to the tournament. It shows how much respect we as a conference get nationally in our sport. Its nice to finally get that recognition.”
A total of eight Big 12 schools made the NCAA Tournament, the most of any conference. The Atlantic Coast Conference was second with seven teams. All eight teams that qualified for the Big 12 Tournament also qualified for the NCAA Tournament.
“We don't know much about Auburn at the moment,” said Hancock. “We know they're a strong team in a very strong conference. We feel like its a very winnable game and we're looking forward to the opportunity.”
The NCAA seeds the top-16 teams in the tournament. The winner of the Oklahoma State-Auburn game will play the No. 11 seed and host school Florida State on Sunday.
