Cowgirl Soccer Upends Texas, 3-1
October 07, 2003 | Cowgirl Soccer
The Cowgirls scored two early goals and held on for the win despite being outshot by Texas, 22-8.
Schweitzer struck first at the 6:28 mark, taking a feed from Nikki Wojtowicz and breaking down the right side.
The second goal came less than four minutes later, also on an assist from Wojtowicz. Wojtowicz took a free kick from 35 yards out and Schweitzer buried the shot with a header into the right corner of the net.
Texas cut the lead to 2-1 in the 27th minute of the contest when Kelly Wilson scored unassisted. The goal came after Kathrin Lehmann made an impressive save but was unable to control the ball.
Schweitzer scored her final goal of the afternoon with 12 minutes remaining in the contest. Schweitzer took a feed from Joanne Edwards and broke down the middle for an uncontested goal when UT goalkeeper, Dana Hall, came out to challenge but anticipated the wrong move.
Oklahoma State improves to 11-0-1 overall and 3-0-1 in conference play while Texas falls to 6-6-0 overall and 1-2-0 in league contests.
The Cowgirls are off to their best start in program history and will look for continued success when they hit the road for the first of four road contests Friday at Missouri.
