Cowgirl Soccer Suffers First Defeat of the Season
October 13, 2003 | Cowgirl Soccer
Oklahoma State jumped out to an early 1-0 lead but it would be all the offense the Cowgirls could muster in the contest. Jolene Schweitzer scored the lone Cowgirl goal at the 35:58 mark on an assist from Nikki Wojtowicz.
The Cyclones' Alli Coleman took a feed from Kate Kirwan five minutes later to even the score.
The Cowgirls and Cyclones entered halftime tied at 1-1 but it would be all ISU in the second half.
Kirwan took over after intermission, scoring both of Iowa State's remaining goals. The first came 14 minutes into the second period and gave the Cyclones a 2-1 lead they would not relinquish.
Kirwan then put the game away in the 85th minute of the contest on her second goal of the afternoon.
The Cyclones outshot the Cowgirls 18-15, marking the third consecutive game OSU has been outshot by its opponent.
Oklahoma State (11-1-2, 3-1-2) takes the road again next weekend, facing No. 22 Nebraska on Friday and 12th ranked Colorado on Sunday.
