OKLAHOMA CITY - Ivan McFarlin scored a career-high 27 points and Tony Allen added 22 Saturday night, leading Oklahoma State to a 78-65 victory over Brigham Young in the Touchstone Energy All-College Classic.
Oklahoma State (10-1) used a strong defensive performance to get control of the game. The Cowboys held Brigham Young (10-3) without a field goal for an 11?-minute stretch of the second half.
Travis Hansen led BYU with 14 points, 12 in the first half. Rafael Arajuo had 11 points and 14 rebounds.
Oklahoma State used a 16-2 run late in the first half to take a 35-30 halftime lead but BYU put together a surge early in the second half to tie the score at 38.
The Cowboys went on a 23-5 run after that, getting points throughout the lineup and frustrating BYU at the offensive end of the floor. The field goal drought ended when Araujo scored inside with 5:55 remaining.
Oklahoma State led by 18 three times in the second half, the final time 66-48. BYU got no closer than 10 after that.
Brigham Young used 3-point shooting to stay in front of the Cowboys in the early going. A long-range jumper by Kevin Woodberry gave the Cougars their biggest first-half lead, 18-11, with 10:40 left.
After Oklahoma State scored six in a row to get within one, the Cougars went on another brief run capped by a Hansen 3-pointer that made the score 25-19 with 5:09 remaining.
BYU then got outscored 16-2 in the next five minutes, with McFarlin and Allen scoring all but two of the points for Oklahoma State.
