Record setting wide receiver Rashaun Woods will return to Oklahoma State for his senior season. OSU's All-America pass catcher made the announcement Monday night at halftime of OSU's basketball game against Oklahoma.
Woods just completed his junior season by helping to lead the Cowboys to an 8-5 record and Houston Bowl win over Southern Miss. He was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2002 Houston Bowl after catching nine passes for 164 yards and a touchdown in the 33-23 win over the Golden Eagles.
In 2002, Woods was a first team Walter Camp All America and was also received first team recognition by the Sporting News, Football News and CNN/SI. He was first team All Big 12 by both league coaches and the Associated Press.
His 2002 numbers were amazing. In 13 games, Woods caught 107 passes for 1,695 yards. He hauled in 17 touchdowns and averaged 15.8 yards per reception. He led both OSU and the Big 12 in receiving and was third in the country in receiving yards per game.
Woods established several single-season OSU records in 2002. His receiving yards (1,695) is a new OSU record, eclipsing the old mark held by Hart Lee Dykes. His receptions (107) is a new record, breaking the mark he established in 2001. He also set a new OSU single-season record for touchdowns (17).
Woods established a career high in single-game receiving yards when he logged 226 in OSU's win over Oklahoma on Nov. 30. Eight of his top 13 single-game efforts came in 2002, including 175 against Northern Iowa and 171 against Kansas at Lawrence.
Woods will go into the 2003 season with 3,047 career yards, just 124 behind the OSU career record of 3,171 set by Dykes who wore the OSU uniform from 1985-88.
"We are obviously thrilled with Rashaun's decision," said head coach Les Miles. "Rashaun Woods is a quality young man with a quality family and I know this decision was one that was carefully considered."
