Looking Ahead
Oklahoma State's soccer squad wraps up a three-game homestand on Thursday, hosting Western Kentucky at 7 p.m. at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex.
After battling with the Lady Toppers, OSU will have a few days to rest before traveling to Arkansas to face the Lady `Backs at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Oklahoma State (4-0) is off to its best start in six years and can break into the record book with a win on Thursday against Western Kentucky.
Two records, season opening wins and consecutive wins, stand at four and are on the brink of being surpassed after holding since 1996.
The Cowgirls also jumped out to a 4-0 start in 1996 before ending the run on a tie with Baylor, 2-2. A win on Thursday will improve the Cowgirls' record to 5-0 and shatter both records.
Western Kentucky (3-1-0) went 2-0 over the weekend, defeating Austin Peay, 1-0, and Morehead State, 9-3. Alison Nellis led the offensive explosion against Morehead State, netting three goals in the win.
Arkansas (1-4-0) picked up its first win of the season last Friday. The Lady `Backs defeated Southeast Missouri State, 2-1, but fell to Oklahoma, 3-0, on Sunday.
For the second time this season, Oklahoma State will square off with an unfamiliar opponent. The contest with the Lady Toppers will be a first for the Cowgirl program.
Oklahoma State and Arkansas have faced one mutual opponent, Tulsa. OSU defeated the Golden Hurricane, 3-1, while Arkansas fell, 2-1.
Oklahoma State leads the all-time series with Arkansas 2-0-0. The last meeting between the two squads was in 1998 when the Cowgirls edged the Lady `Backs, 2-0, in Fayetteville. In 1997, OSU defeated Arkansas, 3-2, in Stillwater.
Week in Review
Oklahoma State continued to roll last weekend, picking up two shutouts while out-shooting its opponents 35-7. The Cowgirls defeated Louisiana-Lafayette, 2-0, on Friday and Stephen F. Austin, 4-0, on Sunday.
OSU jumped out to an early lead on ULL less than two minutes into the contest when Courtney Robb earned her first goal of the young season on a cross from Nikki Wojtowicz at the 1:56 mark.
One goal would have been enough to send OSU home with the victory due to the stifling Cowgirl defense, but OSU had one more trick up its sleeve.
With less than nine minutes remaining in the contest, Wojtowicz picked up her second assist of the night, teaming up with Cassie Lewis to give the freshman the first goal of her career.
In a repeat performance from Friday night, Cassie Lewis and Nikki Wojtowicz combined for the first Cowgirl goal five minutes into SFA contest. Wojtowicz found Lewis on the corner kick to give the freshman her second goal in as many games.
The Cowgirls did not waste much time and quickly extended their lead, scoring again at the 10:28 mark. Jere Boykin took a pass from Carla Dolomont and outran the defender for her second goal of the season.
Riding a 2-0 lead, Jolene Schweitzer came out of the locker room with a vengeance, scoring two goals in the first seven minutes of the second stanza.
The first goal came 16 seconds into the stanza on an assist from Krista Dedmon.
Dedmon became the second Cowgirl in as many games to pick up a pair of assists in one game when she and Courtney Robb teamed up with Schweitzer at the 51:35 to round out the scoring in the game.
