STILLWATER- When the Oklahoma State University football team hits the road this season, their equipment will be traveling in style ... and it just might start a convoy of Cowboy fans.
Thanks to a generous donation, the OSU Athletic Department now has a striking orange and black tractor-trailer to haul football gear to away games.
Emrick's Van & Storage Company of Enid and Oklahoma City (agent for Allied Van Lines), donated the 48-foot double-drop Kentucky trailer. Company President C. Paul Baker, Jr., is an OSU alumnus and a long-time supporter of the program.
"We are proud to be involved in taking the OSU program to the next level," Baker said. "This tractor-trailer will turn a lot of heads cruising down the highway. It's really a moving billboard for OSU."
Several other loyal donors helped Emrick's refurbish the trailer with new tires, chrome wheels, lighting, safety features and custom paint: Baker-Harris Insurance, Enid; GCR Tires, OKC; Great Dane of Oklahoma, OKC; Steco Trailers, Enid; and Topographic, Inc., OKC. OSU's Physical Plant sign shop adorned the trailer with special vinyl lettering and logos.
Head Football Coach Les Miles is pleased with the new addition to the OSU fleet.
"OSU needs to project a first-class image when we go on the road," Miles said. "We're very grateful to the donors who made this possible. It looks great!"
In the past, Oklahoma State had to rent a large truck to transport the team's cumbersome equipment. Now OSU can easily haul all of the necessary uniforms, sideline equipment and training room supplies, with plenty of room for additional items if necessary.
Jeff Baker, operations manager for Emrick's, will be behind the wheel of the 2002 Freightliner Classic XL this season. The tractor-trailer will make its first road trip when the Cowboys travel to Shreveport, La., to face Louisiana Tech in the season opener August 31.
