Doonbeg, County Clare, Ireland - Oklahoma State's Hunter Mahan posted a 0-1-1 record on Friday as the United States pulled away from Great Britain and Ireland, tallying a 15.5 to 8.5 victory to win its second consecutive Palmer Cup title at Doonbeg Golf Club in Ireland.
Mahan, a junior-to-be, suffered a close setback to GB and I's Justin Walters, falling 2 and 1 during the breakfast session to open singles play. However, the U.S. was able to win five matches and build a five-point lead heading into the final round of action.
The McKinney, Texas, native bounced back in the afternoon session, halving his match with Andy Smith as the Americans tacked on four more victories to secure the win.
Mahan finished the two-day event with an overall record of 1-2-1.
