STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State baseball will host Southern University in a two-game series next week in Stillwater to make up for games lost due to weather earlier this year.
The Cowboys and Jaguars will play at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 13, and at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, with admission for both games free to the public. The contests are the last regular season games at Reynolds Stadium this year.
Southern is 45-6 overall and became the first team to receive an automatic bid to the 2002 NCAA tournament after winning the Southwestern Athletic Conference tourney last weekend in Shreveport, La. They are led offensively by second baseman Rickie Weeks who is batting .503 on the year with 19 homers and 91 RBIs.
The Jaguars have won the SWAC tournament six out of the last seven years and 11 out of head coach Roger Cador's 18 seasons at the school. They played in the New Orleans Regional in 2001 along with Oklahoma State, Mississippi and host Tulane.
"Southern is a quality program that we established a relationship with last season during the NCAA tournament," said head coach Tom Holliday. "Coach Cador and I worked the last few weeks on setting the series up provided they won the SWAC tourney, which they did last weekend. It should be two competitive games and it allows us to reach the NCAA 56-game limit," added Holliday.
