LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Oklahoma State shot a second-round 281, seven-under-par, to remain in first place after two nearly-complete rounds of the NCAA Central Regional Golf Championships at Pleasant Valley Country Club.
The Cowboys shot 287 on Friday to end up at eight-under 568 after two rounds.
While OSU and most squads got in a full round on Friday, several teams will need to finish their second rounds early Saturday morning.
Heavy thunderstorms moved through the Little Rock area Friday morning, and the players were called off the course at 8:42 a.m. Play resumed at 11:30 a.m., pushing back Thursday's afternoon tee times. At 6:08 p.m., the air horns were again sounded, summoning players from the course once again. Less than one minute later, heavy rains drenched the players and spectators coming in from the course and play was delayed until 6:45 p.m.
The Cowboys got off to a hot start before enduring the delay to post a nine-hole team total eight-under. However, OSU saw its lead trimmed to one shot after Purdue turned in a 279, nine-under, total.
Individually, sophomore Hunter Mahan posted OSU's low round on the day, carding a three-under 69. The 2002 Big 12 Player of the Year birdied his first two holes en route to an outward nine score of 33. Mahan closed out his round with an even-par 36 to move to two-under for the tournament.
P?r Nilsson continued his steady play, recording 14 pars during his round and finishing with an even-par 72. The sophomore remained at two-under for the tournament.
Freshman Alex Nor?n moved back to even par for the tournament after turning in a two-under 70 on Friday. Nor?n also turned in a 14-par round to go with three birdies and one bogey.
After tallying three consecutive birdies to begin his round, J.C. DeLeon made the turn with a four-under 32 before enduring a triple bogey on his 13th hole. The junior rebounded with a birdie four holes later to get back to two-under for the day.
The second round will resume tomorrow morning with the final round to follow.
