STILLWATER, Okla. - Senior Nick McCurdy threw his first complete game of the season to lead Oklahoma State to a 7-2 win over Texas A&M in Big 12 baseball action Sunday afternoon at Reynolds Stadium.
McCurdy limited the Aggies to six hits while walking one with six strikeouts to improve to 5-0 on the year. The Cowboys avoided getting swept in the three game series to move to 34-17 and 12-11 in Big 12 play. A&M fell to 34-19 and 13-11 in conference action.
The Cowboys jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a RBI single by senior Nebasett Brown and a sacrifice fly by right fielder Daylon Monette. It marked the first time in the series that the Pokes had a lead.
Senior designated hitter Jake Bollig broke the game open with a three-run homer in the third inning off of A&M starter Justin Moore to extend the advantage to 5-0. It was Bollig's tenth homer of the year and fifth in the last five games.
The Aggies scored a run in the top of the fourth on a RBI double by designated hitter Justin Pouk to cut the lead to 5-1. The Cowboys stormed back in their half, scoring two runs on RBI singles by Rob Watson and Jeff Salazar to make it 7-1.
A&M right fielder Neal Stephenson hit a solo homer in the seventh inning to round out the scoring for the Aggies.
Bollig finished the afternoon 2-for-4 with a double, homer and three RBIs, while Salazar extended his hitting streak to 17 games with a 3-for-4 day at the plate.
OSU will be back in action tomorrow night against Southwestern Athletic Conference Champion Southern University at 7 p.m. The game is part of a two-game makeup series against the Jaguars, with the teams playing again on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
