Cowboys Down Sooners 11-7 In 14 Innings

TULSA, Okla. - After five hours and 23 minutes, and in front of a season-high crowd of 10,703 Thursday night at Tulsa's Drillers' Stadium, Oklahoma State won a 14-inning, 11-7 contest over Oklahoma in one of the wildest and most bizarre games one will ever see in baseball.
Deadlocked at five after nine innings, the teams went into extra frames and after both teams scored a run in the 13th, OSU scored five times, including a Paul Powell grand slam, to wrap up the win. Denver Kitch hit a solo home run in the bottom of the 14th, however it was too little, too late for the Sooners. Buddy Blair (4-1) took the loss for OU, allowing the five runs to Oklahoma State in the 14th.
Mark Roberts (6-3) pitched five innings and a third, and on 115 pitches, surrendered three runs on six hits and struck out four Cowboys. Jarod McAuliff, a native of Stillwater, pitched six innings, allowed three runs on seven hits and struck out a career-high seven batters. Curtis White and Michael Bradbury also made relief appearances for OU.
Oklahoma State starter Scott Baker went 7.2 innings and allowed five runs on five hits,while striking out six. Daniel Rew (4-0) got the win for OSU, going an inning and two thirds and allowing two runs on three hits. The Cowboys won despite leaving a season-high 19 men on base in the game.
OSU got on the board in the top of the first with a run on three hits and added another run in the second when Jeff Salazar grounded out to score Paul Powell. Both Charlie Frasier and Ryan Richardson drew walks to lead off the OU half of the second and Luke Alexander hit a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners to second and third. Baker, however, got out of the inning unscathed.
Oklahoma State extended its lead to 3-0 with a tally in the top of the third, but OU got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the third frame. Chris Jakubauskas walked to lead off the inning and Denver Kitch roped a single to left field. Reggie Willits laid down a sacrifice bunt which moved the runners up a base, and Eddie Cornejo brought them home with a double off the left field wall.
In the fourth inning, Oklahoma evened the score at three when Jakubauskas ripped a solo home run over the right field wall. OU then took its first lead of the game at 4-3 when Jason Fransz hit sacrifice fly in the fifth inning, scoring Willits.
OSU tied the game at four in the eighth as Jason Jaramillo singled up the middle to score a run. The Cowboys then loaded the bases with three singles, and a Jake Bollig sacrifice fly gave Oklahoma State a 5-4 lead.
Oklahoma tied the game once more as Fransz ripped a home run to left center field. The homer, a solo shot on an 0-1 pitch by Baker, was the slugging left fielder's 13th of the season.
The Sooners and Cowboys will battle again Friday night at Oklahoma City's SBC Bricktown Ballpark with a 7 p.m. first pitch. The clubs will conclude this season's edition of the Bedlam series on Saturday evening at Bricktown, also with a 7 p.m. start time.
