ARDMORE, Okla. - Oklahoma State's men's golf team picked up its first win of the spring season on Sunday, notching a four-stroke triumph over Houston at The Maxwell in Ardmore, Okla.
OSU matched the Cougars' final-round 288 to maintain its four-stroke lead over UH and claim its first team title since winning the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate last October. The win marked the fourth time the Cowboys have won The Maxwell and was their first victory at the event since claiming three consecutive titles from 1996-98.
Houston's Brett Callas took home individual medalist honors after recording a 67 on Sunday to finish with a 207 total.
A pair of Cowboys, sophomore Hunter Mahan and freshman Alex Nor?n, posted top-10 finishes to lead the individual charge. Mahan, who entered Sunday's final round as the tournament co-leader, carded a two-over 72 to finish with an even-par total of 210 and in sole possession of fifth place.
Nor?n followed up back-to-back 70s with a final-round 74 to end play four-over and in ninth place, giving him his first career top 10.
Senior Anders Hultman, last year's individual champion, fired his second consecutive 72 to come in a stroke behind Nor?n and tie with Texas' John Klauk for 12th place at 215, five-over.
Sophomore P?r Nilsson rebounded from a second-round 77 with an even-par 70 to move into a tie for 14th with five other players, including teammate J.C. DeLeon. DeLeon, a junior, competed as an individual and posted OSU's low round of the day, firing a two-under 68 to move up 17 spots on the leaderboard.
Freshman Dayton Rose rounded out the Cowboy lineup with a 77 on Sunday to finish tied for 46th place with a 227 total.
OSU will be back in action May 16-18 when it travels to Pleasant Valley Country Club in Little Rock, Ark., for the NCAA Central Regional.
