Cowboy Golf Holds Lead After Day One at The Maxwell

ARDMORE, Okla. - Oklahoma State's men's golf team concluded the first day of action at The Maxwell in Ardmore, Okla., with a four-stroke lead, finishing play at Dornick Hills Country Club with a 36-hole, five-over total of 565.
The Cowboys started the day with a 283 score during their morning round to build a three-shot lead over Texas before shaving a stroke off in the afternoon session with a 282 to end play four strokes ahead of Houston.
Individually, sophomore Hunter Mahan rebounded from a first-round 72 with a four-under 66 to stand in a tie for first place with Oklahoma's Cody Freeman. With a win this weekend, the 2002 Big 12 Player of the Year would set the school record for wins by a sophomore and tie the overall mark for victories in a season with four.
Freshman Alex Nor?n posted a pair of even-par 70s to come in two strokes off the pace and in a three-way deadlock for fourth.
Anders Hultman, who is fresh off his first win of the season at the Big 12 Championship, carded a three-over total of 143. The senior posted rounds of 71 and 72 to finish play tied with three other players for 11th place.
After opening the tournament with a 70, sophomore P?r Nilsson came in with a second-round 77 to slip into a five-way tie for 24th place, while freshman Dayton Rose rounded out the OSU lineup with a 10-over 150 after notching rounds of 76 and 74 to stand in a tie for 35th place.
Junior J.C. DeLeon, one of four individuals competing in the event, finished play with a 76 after opening with a three-over 73 and will begin his final round tied with three other players for 31st place at nine-over-par.
The Cowboys will begin their final round on the par 70, 6,442-yard layout tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. on the No. 1 tee.
