STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State exploded for 16 runs in the second and third innings in a 20-2 win over San Francisco in baseball action Tuesday night at Reynolds Stadium.
The Cowboys improved to 23-8 overall while the Dons dropped their eighth straight game to drop to 8-28. OSU tied the school record for triples in a game with four, last set against Oklahoma on May 13, 1998.
Centerfielder Jeff Salazar also tied the school record for triples in a game with two which was last done by Lamont Matthews against TCU on April 13, 1999.
OSU scored a run on a sacrifice fly by first baseman Zach Cates in the first inning before the flood gates opened in the second with a nine-run outburst. Nebasett Brown, Daylon Monette and Zach Cates all had RBI hits in the inning with third baseman Paul Powell providing the big blow, a three-run homer, his tenth of the year.
The Cowboys added seven more runs in the third as leftfielder Jos? Virgil had a two-run double, Rob Watson a two-run single and catcher Jason Jaramillo a two-run homer in the stanza to extend the lead to 17-0.
The Dons got on the scoreboard in the fourth, when catcher Steve Booth hit a two-run homer off of OSU starter Scott Baker to make the score 17-2.
Baker went five innings and allowed two runs on four hits with four strikeouts to move to 3-0 on the year. T.J. Franco lasted one and 2/3 innings and gave up 10 runs on seven hits to fall to 0-6 in 2002.
OSU added a run in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to round out the scoring. Salazar, Watson and Powell each had three RBIs to lead the Cowboy offensive charge.
Leftfielder Joe Jacobitz was the top hitter for USF with two hits on the night.
The teams will be back in action tomorrow at 6 p.m. Junior righthander Mike Miller is scheduled to start on the mound for the Cowboys.
