Oklahoma State Rallies To Defeat Arkansas-Little Rock 8-2

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State trailed Arkansas-Little Rock 2-1 in the fourth inning when shortstop Rob Watson hit a three-run homer to put the Cowboys ahead 4-2 en route to an 8-2 win in baseball action Tuesday evening at Reynolds Stadium.
Third baseman Paul Powell walked with two outs in the fourth and was followed by first baseman Mitch Mitchell who singled to right-center. Watson then drove a 2-2 pitch by Trojan starter Scott Sharpe over the rightfield wall to give the Pokes the lead in a game for the first time in five games.
The Cowboys added two more runs in the fifth to take a 6-2 lead. Rightfielder Daylon Monette and pinch hitter Zach Cates had RBI singles in the seventh to push the final advantage to 8-2.
Oklahoma State snapped a five-game losing streak and improved to 30-15 on the season while Arkansas-Little Rock dropped to 17-28 in 2002.
UALR got on the board first with two runs in the opening stanza off of three hits on Cowboy starter Nick McCurdy.
OSU scored a run in the bottom of the third on a RBI groundout by leftfielder Toby Rhodes to cut the lead to 2-1.
McCurdy settled down after the two-run first and blanked the Trojans the next four innings to move to 3-0 on the year. Sophomores Jimmy Rhodes and Joe Weaver combined for four innings of no-hit scoreless relief.
Sharpe (3-6) held the Cowboys hitless until the third inning, but took the loss with four earned runs on three hits in four innings of work.
Santino Dewreede led the Trojans with a 3-for-4 day at the plate with a run scored while Watson led OSU with a 2-for-4 showing with three RBIs.
Oklahoma State will hit the road this weekend for a three-game Big 12 series against Missouri. The teams will open play on Friday at 6:30 p.m. and continue on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
